I'm really excited to get my hands on this oil, I LOVE the smell of celery (I know, it's a bit marmite - you either love it or hate it) but apparently the aroma of the seed is amazing. It's earthy, sweet and a little spicy!
Hippocrates praised it's therapeutic and medicinal benefits in his Roman encyclopedia 'De Medicina' and it became popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries to support digestive health.
It's rich in limonene, like citrus oils, which make it energising, great for cleansing surfaces and supportive of the metabolism if you take it internally; but unlike citrus oils, it also contains high concentrations of beta-selinene, which is a powerful antioxidant with cardiovascular benefits, as well as supporting digestive function.
Celery seed essential oil calms the nervous system, encourages healthy immune responses and supports lung and respiratory health.
You can use celery seed in cooking as a flavouring (being one of the components of the “holy trinity”, mirepoix, flavour base used in French cuisine), and you can use it aromatically instead or with wild orange in the morning to support your mood. You could also try one of these protocols suggested by Dr Hill at convention:
1. Immune Protocol
Celery seed enhances the bodies natural defences and healthy stomach lining and tissue.
2-3 drops in a capsule, morning and night, combined with basil, lemongrass or oregano in equal amounts.
2. Urinary Tract Protocol
To support the kidneys, take 2-3 drops of celery seed combined with Juniper Berry in a gel capsule and take as needed.
To support the rest of the digestive tract you can use 2-3 drops of cinnamon with celery seed in much the same way. Dr Hill didn't mention it, but I find lemongrass is also fantastic for soothing irritation and a wonderful complement to this protocol would be to rub it on the abdomen.
