Hummus is so easy and delicious to make at home. Once you've tried this recipe I think you'll wonder why you ever bought it in a shop!
You will need a blender and:
Drain the chickpeas, reserving the liquid (aquafaba) and rinse them in cold water before placing them in your blender along with the tahini, peeled cloves of garlic and salt.
Take 1/3 cup of aquafaba and the juice of the lemon and cook over medium heat until boiling.
Pour the hot liquid over the chickpeas whilst running the blender until a nice smooth consistency is achieved.
Stir through the olive oil and enjoy!
I like my hummus extra lemon-y, so we add a drop of lemon essential oil to the olive oil before stirring it through. It's really important that you don't add the oil whilst the blender is running, as a powerful blend will fracture the oil molecules and make the hummus taste bitter.
Sprinkle with harissa or some smoked paprika for a beautiful look and fantastic flavour.
You can also change up the flavour of your hummus using your essential oils; I love adding 2 drops of lime and 1 drop coriander essential oil. Rosemary is also a really good oil to try, and marjoram is great too (only use a toothpick to add this oil, you need tiny amounts - you can always add more but it's tough to take away!)
